Nature Education and Wildlife Rehabilitation Center (a.k.a. The Nature Center).
The Nature Education and Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, a.k.a. The Nature Center, is a natural offshoot of Fresno Wildlife Rehabilitation Service (FWRS), which has been serving the needs of the San Joaquin Valley since May 1974. The Nature Center's proposed site is located on the east side of Temperance Avenue at the Sierra Avenue alignment in Clovis. FWRS has focused on caring for native wildlife and giving instruction to the general public related to wildlife's natural history, as well as treatment of sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife. Non-releasable animals will become living displays supporting educational programs for all ages, reaching over 20,000 children and adults each year. Classes will be offered to provide insight into wildlife conservation, natural history, and the environment to schools, scouts, service organizations, and the general public. The Nature Center will have hands-on displays of wildlife artifacts, for example, nests, teeth, skulls, skins, etc. A lending library of mounted specimens will be available for teachers to use in their classrooms. Visitors will come not only from the immediate area but all of Fresno County and surrounding counties. The Nature Center will benefit many communities throughout the state.
All educational programs, which are aligned with the required Next Generation Science Standards, include climate change and how it affects wildlife around the world. Instruction is designed to help students become scientifically literate citizens and good stewards of the earth. Instruction will be offered to provide insight into wildlife, conservation, natural history, and the environment.
